URGENT ASSISTANCE REQUESTED FROM EQUINE DENTAL INDUSTRY... PLEASE ACTION IMMEDIATELY and FORWARD TO OTHERS

The Northern Territory Veterinary Surgeons Act is currently being reviewed. We urgently request all equine dentists, horse owners and Industry representatives to
send 4 short emails of support.

Suggested wording for your email is IN GREEN below.

Please cut and paste this
green text  and urgently send this to the Northern Territory Government  executivesupport.drdpifr@nt.gov.au....by the 18TH DECEMBER 2009. Please do this even if you do not live in the Northern Territory. What legislation is implemented in the Northern Territory will eventually influence and potentially dictate what services the horse owner can access in other states where reviews or legislation may be implemented

Please also cut and send a copy of this Green text by email urgently to your local Federal member of parliament AND your state Primary Industry Minister asking  them to also investigate why the listing of National Competencies for Equine Dentistry is being delayed.

Please also cut and send a copy of this
Green text by email urgently to the Federal Primary Industry Minister Tony Burke  tony.burke.mp@aph.gov.au asking  him to also  investigate why the listing of National Competencies for Equine Dentistry is being delayed.

RE: Equine Dentistry and my right to choose a service provider

I support the aims of the Australasian Association For Equine Dentistry Inc ( www.aaed.org.au )  in its objective to develop Nationally Accredited Competencies for Non Veterinarians to be trained within the Australian Quality Training Framework and deliver Equine Dental Services for the benefit of equine health and welfare across the country. The proposed National Competencies for Equine Dentistry should be listed for public comment urgently. In addition I support the following..

    * There should be provision in the regulations which accommodate Nationally Accredited Equine Dentists in the  future delivering a range of dental services
    * Provision must be made for some current training to be recognised and practitioners allowed to work in the transition period of National Competency implementation
    * All Departments of Primary Industries should consult with AgriFood Skills Australia  ( http://www.agrifoodskills.net.au/ ) so a National consultative approach is taken.

    * The public horse owner MUST have the right to decide who provides Equine Dental Services and not be restricted to accessing Vet Only services in the field
    * Equine dentists should be recognised in their own right to practice independently of veterinarians, but also required to consult/refer to veterinarians when circumstances         dictate.
    * There is inequity in a vet doing short courses in equine dentistry, then being responsible for overseeing a professional dentist who has extensive training and experience         and  having the authority to dictate the course of action/treatment required.

    * Legislation must comply with National Competition policy to ensure cost effective services are delivered.
    * The regulations should foster LEVEL PLAYING FIELD competition for services that can be delivered by trained competent dentists.
    * Creation of an Animal Health Services Act to allow non veterinarian service providers to operate independent of the veterinary profession.
    * Health service providers are currently covered by existing legislation such as the Animal Welfare ACT and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ACT etc.

    * Legislation and regulations should be standardised across Australia.

This DVD is an informational guide to what you can expect from "Whole of Mouth" equine dentistry and why it is totally important to have this type of dentistry done on your horse. This is a DVD not to be missed by the discerning horse owner and trainer.

INDUSTRY NEWS
EQUINE DENTAL TRAINING PACKAGE

The modules for a Nationally Recognized Training Package have been written and are now being reviewed by stakeholders. We look forward to this being implemented and will keep you posted on it's progress.
Contrary to what the general public is being informed, there is, at this time,
NO nationally accredited Training Package for Equine Dentistry in Australia.
Due to a very strong demand from the horse industry and interested students, the College’s private teaching program continues to run it’s teaching blocks three times each year. At such time as the National Training Package is implemented, each student enrolled in our program and having already completed existing modules, will receive “Recognition of Prior Learning” (RPL’s) for Units of Competency already completed.
Our College continues to strive for National Recognition of appropriately trained and accredited equine dental practitioners throughout Australia and the rest of the world.
Students never cease to show amazement at the standard of education that is offered at the College, and the care and commitment of all persons involved in attending the College, from horse-owners to instructors to students.
It is a truly amazing program of learning to be in and we welcome all interested persons who wish to be involved in this rewarding career to contact us for more information on our learning program.
